Ford Focus 2.0 ST TDCI 185HP
Ford’s main hot hatch diesel comes in the form of the Focus ST TDCI 185HP
The Ford Focus are currently made in the Saarlouis Assembly Plant in the Saarland region of Germany, The ST Range started production in 2012, Ford employ over 6,500 employees and have invested over 3 Billion Euros to keep up with demand and development. Thanks to this investment over 1800 vehicles can be produced within 1 day!
The 2.0 Focus ST TDCI leaves the factory with a healthy 185HP & 400NM, based on the 148HP engine the 185 gets a revised intake system and revised ECU mapping. The Focus 2.0 ST TDCI 185HP is controlled via the Delphi DCM 6.1.
As always, a full diagnostic health check is carried out on any vehicle. What we call pre-map checks & datalogging. On this occasion we found a fault code stored – P06DD Engine oil pressure control circuit struck off, after some investigation it was found this is a common fault with the TDCI engines, we recommend that the customer on this occasion to get this sorted before we proceeded with the tuning! Now you can see why Pre map checks are very important! Something to consider when asking for a quote!
Fast forward 2 weeks……. The fault has been fixed!
Time for some on road datalogging!
What do we monitor when data logging?
- Intake Temp
- Fuel Pressure
- Boost Pressure
- Exhaust Gas Temp
- DPF Differential Pressure
- And Many More
With all parameters within specifications we could then safely proceed with applying the Stage 1 ECU Remap. We chose to use Autotuner remapping tool, a very fast and stable tool for tuning. With the Stage 1 Remap now written onto the ECU we carry out another full global scan as some codes can be stored when writing the ECU, after a clear down of any codes it is now time for Post Map Data Logs.
What do we monitor on Post Map Data Logs?
The same as pre map…… This ensures that all of the modified parameters such as actual values are meeting the requested values. With all of the data looking spot on it’s time to hand the keys back and let the customer go for a test drive, a thumbs up and a big grin confirmed he was very happy with the improved performance. (see google review)
What are the advantages of remapping my Ford Focus 2.0 ST TDCI
- Improved drivability
- More power & torque
- Improved throttle response
- Reduced fuel consumption
To name just a few.
With a West Wales Tuning Stage 1 ECU Remap the Focus ST TDCI gains 25hp & 50nm (peak) Although the peak numbers might not be something to jump about the mid range gains are substantially more which can be felt instantly on road test.
